A quick chat with Phil and Todd…

Q. What is Capricorn?

Todd: It's a power trio, plain and simple. No
metal, just straight up, speed- freak rock and roll.

Q. How did this thing start?

Todd: Phil and I have known each other for a long time. We played together in Murphy's Law for a couple of tours in Europe and Japan back in the 90's and on those trips we'd spend hours listening and loving bands like the Stooges, ZZ Top and Motorhead. We both really dug the simplicity of the one guitar, bass and drums set up. Stripped down, y'know?

Phil Caivano: We talked about doing the Capricorn thing back then but other things came our way. Todd joined Danzig and I joined Monster Magnet and we both went our seperate ways. A busy bunch of years for both of us. Anyway….

Todd: Anyway, not too long ago I was filling in as Motorhead's guitarist and we were playing Asbury Park, NJ. So I invite Phil to the show and sure enough we start talking about the Capricorn thing again except this time we promise to make it a reality.

Phil: We started sending each other riffs and before long we had some songs so last Oct. I got on a plane to LA and got together with Todd and Karl. We did 2 rehearsals and just went in and recorded "American Dream" and Nothin' for Nothin'." It felt really good to just crank it out fast.

I took the tracks to my home studio, (Studio 13) sang the vocals and finished it up. It was mastered by MM's sound engineer Danny Giordana at his "One Voice Studios" in Italy.

About this time, Dave (Wyndorf) came to me with his idea for a "Studio 13" label and the timing was perfect so, here we go.

Q.Is this single a one shot or will there be more Capricorn music in the future?

Phil: Oh, there will be more. We've got a few things cooking right now, as a matter of fact. 2011 should see another release, easy.
